Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Russell.
Hi Katie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

I started photography as my senior project in high school. I did 17 free senior photoshoots for families facing hardship, as the cost of senior portraits can be an extra burden to graduating high school. What started as a service project quickly grew into a small business and a passion. I continued the program throughout college as well as began wedding photography. By the time I graduated I set myself up to go full-time!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One time my car caught on fire with all of my gear stuck in the trunk. I quickly learned the value of business insurance and thankfully I had it.
Managing multiple clubs and being a college cheerleading while growing my business.
The imposter syndrome that comes with being financially successful and getting scholarships to cover all of my college including housing after growing up in a low income household.
I have ADHD and there has certainly been hardships with that as well!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What separates me is my wide array of offerings and experience within digital media, as well as the fact that most photographers don’t have a degree in the field.
I do photo and video, as well as hybrid package and have intentionally set up a system so I don’t miss anything on either media.
I am very self made in the sense that I saved money for my first camera and kept reinvesting into myself.
I am very proud of the service I’ve done as well with photography!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
How to balance work and life without letting it take over who you are. I am a creative first and photographer second. I love creating and photography just so happens to be my most lucrative creation.
