Daily Inspiration: Meet Katlyn Louthan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katlyn Louthan.

Katlyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into makeup began long before I ever imagined it could become a career. Growing up in the pageant world, I discovered my love for makeup and beauty and the way makeup could transform not only how someone looked, but also how confident and beautiful they felt. Still, I never imagined it could become a career for me.

Instead, I went to school for dental assisting and spent about seven years working in the dental field. When my husband and I began planning our family, he was the one who encouraged me to pursue my dreams. He reminded me that even if makeup never became a full time career, I would still be doing something I genuinely loved. He encouraged me that even a few weddings here and there would mean helping women feel beautiful and special on some of the most meaningful days of their lives.

With his encouragement, I went back to school for esthetics and took the leap into the beauty industry. What began with a love for makeup and a little faith has grown into Blushedbykate.

Today, I specialize in natural, soft glam bridal makeup. My goal as a Bridal Makeup artist is to always help my brides feel like themselves, the most confident, elevated version of themselves. I love creating a calm, fun experience on wedding mornings and being a small part of such an important day.

I’m incredibly grateful that taking that leap allowed me to build a business I love while also giving me the flexibility to be home with my boys and pursue something I’m truly passionate about.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles has been learning how to grow a business while also being a mom and balancing everything that comes with family life. There have been seasons where I’ve questioned myself, compared my business to others, or wondered if I was doing enough.

Building a business from the ground up also comes with a lot of uncertainty. There have been slow seasons, learning curves, and plenty of moments where I’ve had to step outside of my comfort zone and believe in myself before I felt completely confident.

But I think those challenges have been some of the most valuable parts of the journey. They’ve taught me to be patient, give myself grace, and remember why I started in the first place. I’m still learning and growing, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and grateful that I didn’t let the hard parts convince me to give up.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a traveling bridal makeup artist based in Salem, Oregon who has a passion for making people feel beautiful! Specializing in natural, soft glam makeup, my goal is to create makeup that looks beautiful in person and photographs beautifully, while still allowing my brides to look and feel like themselves.

I think one of the things I’m most known for is creating that “yourself, but better” look. I never want my brides to feel like they’re wearing a completely different face on their wedding day. I want them to feel confident, beautiful, and comfortable in their own skin.

But beyond the makeup itself, I really pride myself on the experience I provide. Wedding mornings can be stressful, so I want to be a calming, fun and positive presence while still being professional and attentive to the little details. I love getting to know my brides and making them feel taken care of from the moment they sit in my chair.

I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about the person behind the makeup. I’m not just there to check “makeup” off the wedding day checklist. I’m there to help my bride feel special, confident and excited for one of the biggest days of her life.

I’m most proud of the business I’ve built from something I once wasn’t sure I could turn into a career. Getting to do something I love while helping women feel beautiful and being able to be present for my own family is something I don’t take for granted.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My biggest advice is simply: just reach out! If there’s someone you admire, send them a message and let them know what you appreciate about their work. You’d be surprised how many people are willing to share advice or connect if you’re genuine and respectful.

I also believe networking is about building real relationships, not just what someone can do for you. Support others, celebrate their wins, and put yourself out there. You never know where one simple conversation might lead!
