Daily Inspiration: Meet Michael DePuy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael DePuy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
This all started with me telling Bre no. After spending 18 months exploring a different franchise, which ended in us and that franchise not working out. Bre found Kona Ice. While I was burnt out on the process of starting a franchise and getting going again, Bre really believed in this idea and the concept of Kona Ice. Then one day, I found myself on the phone with Tony Lamb, the the founder and CEO of Kona Ice and Bre. Ever since then, I was loved the idea. The rest is history.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Because our territory is so big, running multiple events in one day is tough. It is also hard when a late-night event is followed by an early morning one. Other than those scheduling challenges, things have been smooth. Our customers are wonderful, which makes everything easier.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our proudest achievement is giving back to our community. We love working with schools and youth sports programs, and we make it a priority to donate a portion of our sales back to them.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I wish we hired sooner. Having employees to help run the business is extremely helpful. Taking stress off little tasks such as loading ice, syrup and spoons goes a long way to managing client relationships.
