Exploring Life & Business with Anastasiya Dezhnyuk of Eden Plant Care and Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasiya Dezhnyuk.

Hi Anastasiya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been fascinated by plants. As a child, I collected and pressed flowers and leaves, and by high school I had decided I wanted to pursue naturopathic medicine to study the medicinal value of plants. Instead, I chose to study Botany at Portland State University, where I earned my degree.

I worked in plant tissue culture and later in a quality control laboratory at a dairy in Portland. When my children were young, I decided to stay home with them. During that time, I began building my collection of houseplants and discovered how much joy they brought to my home. Decorating with plants created a calming, peaceful environment, and I realized I had a natural ability to help them thrive. It was rewarding to put my botany education into practice in my own home.

After raising four children and cherishing my years as a stay-at-home mom, I was ready to return to work. I began working with an interior designer as a plant care specialist, and that experience inspired me to start my own business doing what I love most.

As my website gained traction, my business grew to include plant installations, weekly plant care services, and consultations for residential and commercial clients. I combine my scientific background in botany with years of hands-on experience to ensure my clients’ plants remain healthy and flourish.

I am grateful for the trust my clients place in me to care for their plants, and I look forward to continuing to grow my business while helping even more people bring the beauty and benefits of thriving plants into their homes and workplaces.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges has been finding the right balance between building a business and being present for my family. As a wife and mother of four, I wanted to create a successful business without sacrificing the time and relationships that matter most to me. Starting a business requires long hours, flexibility, and persistence, and there were many evenings and weekends spent building my website, meeting with clients, learning the business side of entrepreneurship, and developing systems to help my business grow.

Like many small business owners, I have also experienced slow seasons. There were times when inquiries were few and far between, and reaching out to potential clients without receiving a response could be discouraging. It’s easy to question yourself during those moments, but I learned that growing a business takes patience and consistency. Every unanswered email and every missed opportunity became a reminder to keep improving, continue networking, and trust that the right clients would come.

Over time, those challenges helped me become more resilient and confident. I learned that success doesn’t happen overnight but is built through dedication, hard work, and a genuine passion for what you do. Looking back, I am grateful that I persevered through the slow periods because they made me appreciate every client and every opportunity even more. Today, I continue to grow my business while maintaining the balance that inspired me to become an entrepreneur in the first place.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Eden Plant Care and Design?
My business is dedicated to helping indoor plants not just survive, but truly thrive. I work with both residential and commercial clients to create healthy, beautiful indoor environments through personalized plant care and expert guidance.

I offer plant consultations tailored to each client’s needs, whether that means diagnosing plant health issues, identifying pests or environmental stress, recommending solutions, or selecting the ideal plants for a home’s lighting conditions, style, and available space. My goal is to help clients feel confident in choosing and caring for plants that will flourish in their unique environment.

In addition to consultations, I design and install custom indoor plant collections for homes, offices, and commercial spaces. Every installation is thoughtfully planned to complement the space while ensuring each plant is well suited to its location for long term success.

I also provide ongoing weekly plant care services, giving clients peace of mind that their plants are receiving consistent, professional attention. My maintenance services include watering, pruning, cleaning foliage, monitoring for pests and disease, fertilizing, repotting when needed, and making seasonal care adjustments. I proactively identify potential problems before they become serious, helping plants remain healthy, vibrant, and attractive year-round.

What truly sets me apart is my scientific background in botany. My education gave me a deep understanding of plant anatomy, physiology, growth, and environmental needs, allowing me to approach plant care from more than just experience alone. By combining that scientific knowledge with years of hands-on practice, I can accurately diagnose problems, recommend evidence based solutions, and create care plans that promote lasting plant health.

I believe every plant has the potential to thrive when it is placed in the right environment and given the proper care. Whether I’m helping a client revive a struggling houseplant, designing a lush indoor plant collection, or maintaining many plants in a commercial space, my mission is always the same: to create thriving indoor landscapes that bring beauty, wellness, and a connection to nature into everyday life.

What matters most to you? Why?
Above all else, my family and my faith is my greatest source of joy and my highest priority. My husband and our four children have been my biggest supporters throughout this journey, encouraging me every step of the way as I’ve built my business from the ground up. Their belief in me has given me the confidence to keep moving forward, even during the challenging seasons of entrepreneurship.

One of my greatest hopes is that my children see more than just a successful business. I hope they see the value of courage, perseverance, and hard work. I want them to know that it’s never too late to pursue a dream, to step outside your comfort zone, or to try something that feels intimidating. Building a business has required me to take risks, overcome self-doubt, and continue pushing forward even when things didn’t go as planned.

There have been moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and slow periods that tested my confidence, but each challenge has taught me resilience and strengthened my determination. I hope my children see that success is about continuing to show up, learning from mistakes, and believing in yourself enough to keep going.

If my journey teaches them anything, I hope it is that meaningful goals often require patience, persistence, and faith in the process. I want them to know that with dedication, hard work, and a willingness to embrace challenges, they can accomplish things they never imagined possible. Knowing that they are proud of me is one of my greatest accomplishments, and I hope the example I set inspires them to pursue their own passions with confidence and determination.
