Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Legard.
Hi Jerry, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are a three generation family-run and owned feed store in McMinnville, Oregon. We operate out of a building that is recognized as a national historic place. It dates back to 1888. Three generations of the Legard family work for the business, Jerry Legard as owner, Jay Legard as general manager, and Ally Legard as Director of Marketing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have continued to grow and become a pillar of our community. The farm and feed industry has changed in our area, but we have adjusted.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
With our original roots put down in 1888, we boast more than a century of service to local pet owners, farmers, ranchers, and gardeners. When visiting our retail store, located in the historic Buchanan-Cellers Mill building in McMinnville, customers browse among historic relics original to the mill, walk on beautiful worn wood plank floors, and stroll under huge salvaged fir beams. Every time someone shops with us, it’s more than another errand; it’s a step back in time and a chance to explore firsthand a part of our community’s treasured history.
Buchanan-Cellers is both a retail store and wholesale distributor. With a variety of trusted proprietary brands in our Beaver Brand product line, we supply anyone from the dog owner to the largest ranch. We specialize in the whole spectrum of commercial feed, food, and fare for pets, livestock, and wild birds. We also offer gardening and farm supplies.
Our business has been locally owned and operated by the Legard family since 1977. We are deeply committed to serving our customers, preserving the history of McMinnville, and giving back to our community.
Our employees are more than just staff, they are our family. With an average length of service of over 12 years, our employees are knowledgeable and hard-working. We have a multi-generational staff that goes beyond Jerry Legard (Owner) and Jay Legard (General Manager) as father and son. Eight other staff members are related to at least one other employee!
