Exploring Life & Business with Marissa Creamer of Mt. Hood Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Creamer.

Hi Marissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I received my license to practice massage therapy in the summer of 2025 and immediately went into private practice while working at a chiropractic clinic. One year and a few redirections (including a rebrand) later I ended up finding the perfect home for my clinic in a cute little cottage on Hood Avenue in Gresham, Oregon.

The process of making over that space was incredibly stressful and so much work but it has also been so rewarding. It is so beautiful and really a little piece of my heart.

I like to say that I’ve been developing my massage therapy skillset since childhood. My mother had a difficult pregnancy and found much relief in foot massage, and I was happy to be of service. I found that the work came naturally to me and that I enjoyed the endeavor.

I spent much of my 20’s yearning to find a career that could feel like a true calling. On a day like any other I thought…massage therapy? And then…It was like… why have I never considered this? It fits. This fits me.

I remember my first in-class practice massage and it was as if I had been doing it my whole life. And, I have.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely had a few speedbumps. I had to realize first how important it was to me to be close to my clinic. I signed a lease I had to break because I didn’t know yet that a very local clinic was non-negotiable. I then had trouble finding a fitting space in my area that was both affordable and aesthetically pleasing. When I DID find the right spot that fit the vision it took two months of hard labor to get it polished and ready for visitors.

I had to learn the hard way that prioritizing recovery time as a massage therapist is absolutely crucial. The work we do is not easy on our bodies. If my hands, wrists, shoulders and the like are injured, I can’t work. At the very least, the integrity of my work is compromised. I am currently still dealing with a joint that I have to be careful with because of overuse.

Also, balance? Still very much learning that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mt. Hood Massage?
Mt. Hood Massage is a thoughtfully and beautifully curated therapeutic space where you can expect clinical massage treatments. I specialize in nervous system forward deep tissue massage and injury recovery. A common theme among the feedback I’ve received from patients is that they felt really listened to and I think that holds so much weight in this profession.

I am so proud of the way that the space has come together after the endless hours toiling over flooring, paint, and the curation of all the pieces. (shoutout to my husband for breaking his back over the flooring.)

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
