Today we’d like to introduce you to Max (Maxwell) Husbands.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After graduating from the University of Oregon in 2020 with a background in film production and journalism, I started Maxwell Media Production, a real estate photo and video business here in Central Oregon. Through that work, I had the opportunity to help agents, homeowners, business owners, and developers tell the story of their properties through photography, video, drone work, floor plans, and marketing content.
Over time, I realized that what I enjoyed most was not just creating the media, but being part of the bigger process. I loved learning about the properties, understanding the strategy behind a listing, and seeing how thoughtful marketing could help clients move forward in their lives. That eventually led me to pursue my real estate license and join The Jones Group at Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty.
Today, I feel fortunate to combine both sides of my background. I still own and operate Maxwell Media Production, and I continue to enjoy helping clients tell their stories in a way that feels thoughtful, authentic, and visually compelling. My media experience has provided me with a strong eye for presentation, marketing, and storytelling, while real estate has allowed me to build deeper relationships with clients and be more involved from start to finish. I still approach the business with the same mindset I had when I first started behind the camera: pay attention to the details, communicate clearly, and help people feel confident throughout the process.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Graduating from college in 2020, during the start of COVID, proved to be a massive challenge. I remember being very anxious about applying for positions at companies that were unsure of how their business would continue to operate. I ended up being hired to work as a videographer, photographer and project assistant at a construction company in the Bay Area. This experience working on massive construction sites during a widespread pandemic gave me firsthand knowledge that I still use in my business practices. While this was difficult, it was ultimately what led me down the path I am on today.
As you know, we’re big fans of Maxwell Media Production. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Through Maxwell Media Production, I spcialize in providing photography, videography, drone work, floor plans, Zillow 3D tours, and marketing content for business owners, real estate professionals, developers, property managers and builders across Central Oregon.
Whether it’s a listing, rental property, branding photoshoot or a roofing project, I thoroughly enjoy the spontaneity of the work that I engage in. What sets my brand apart is the combination of creative experience and real estate knowledge. I understand how important presentation is, but I also understand that behind every listing, project, or business is a person with a goal – and my job is to help them get closer to that goal.
I am proud that my work is detail-oriented, relationship-driven, and rooted in trust. Whether I am helping someone market a home, document a property, or push their brand forward, my goal is always to make the process feel clear, professional, and personal.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think risk is a necessary part of growth, but I have never viewed it as something that should be taken blindly. To me, risk is about being willing to step into uncertainty when you believe in what you are building and are willing to put in the work to make it happen.
One of the biggest risks I have taken was leaving the comfort and stability of a traditional 9-to-5 job to start my own business. At the time, it was definitely intimidating. There is a certain security that comes with a steady schedule, a predictable paycheck, and a clear path forward. Starting a business meant giving up some of that certainty and betting on myself.
That leap taught me a lot. It pushed me to become more disciplined, more resourceful, and more comfortable with being uncomfortable. I had to learn how to manage clients, market myself, deliver consistent work, and keep moving forward even when things felt uncertain. Looking back, that decision shaped a lot of who I am today, both personally and professionally.
I would not say I take risks just for the sake of taking them. I try to be thoughtful, prepared, and realistic. But I also believe there are moments where you have to trust yourself enough to take the next step before everything feels perfectly figured out. Starting my own business was one of those moments, and it opened the door to opportunities I would not have had otherwise.
