Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Borjas.
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi! My name is Stephanie Marie Borjas and I am an aesthetic nurse practitioner and owner of Chrysalis Aesthetics, an aesthetic injectable clinic in SE Portland. I am a queer, neurodivergent Latinx eldest daughter of immigrants from Nicaragua and am really proud of my identity. I come from the Rio Grande Valley along the Texas & Mexico border, lived in Austin for 12 years and moved to Portland with my partner and our two sweet, goofy dogs.
After a decade of bedside nursing, the pandemic pivoted my career to aesthetic medicine and it has been the most amazing journey. I am an aesthetic injector, specializing in aesthetic treatments such as injectables like botox and filler, PRP rejuvenation and microneedling. I’ve worked in medspas but always felt like I didn’t fit in to the industry’s standard both as an injector and the kind of patients that sought aesthetic treatments, so I decided to make my own! Chrysalis is a space that empowers all people to define what beauty means to them, and everyone who sits in my chair is guided through the transformation that makes them feel like their best self. I love making people feel comfortable in their skin, and gender affirming care is one of my favorite offerings at Chrysalis Aesthetics.

When I’m not injecting and nurturing my business as a one woman show, I love spending time reading tarot, learning more about astrology, reiki and all things witchy and woo. My dream is to weave this magic into my medspa, one step at a time. As a former barista, you’ll probably find me at a local coffeeshop. How people still drink Starbucks- especially in a coffee city like Portland- is beyond me. I might be partial to southeast because thats where I spend most of my time, but I think its got some of the best coffeeshops out there.
My partner Jesse and I love to travel, see live music and partake in Portland’s incredible food scene. Supporting small, supporting local and especially woman/BIPOC/queer owned businesses is my favorite. I love being able to call Portland home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has not been a smooth road! As a kid, I moved around a lot for my dad’s job and it was hard to always be the new kid. This has ended up working in my favor because it’s so easy for me to meet and connect with people, and make them feel included. I am a late diagnosis ADHD girly, and my life and its struggles made so much sense after finding out the world isn’t designed with brains like mine in mind. I’ve had struggles as a woman of color and queer person that have only empowered me to speak up for my communities whenever possible.
As you know, we’re big fans of Chrysalis Aesthetics . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Chrysalis Aesthetics is an aesthetic injectable clinic in SE Portland. I am a solo injector and offer services such as wrinkle relaxers (commonly referred to as botox), dermal fillers, PRP rejuvenation and skin treatments! I offer complimentary consultations and am very passionate about patient education and reducing the stigma that comes with injectables. I pride myself on subtle, natural results and love introducing new patients into the world of aesthetic medicine. Being able to offer gender affirming care by defining a cheekbone, softening certain lines or muscles and helping top surgery scars heal brings me so much joy. I am a Spanish speaker and love it when my patients bring in their family members to have a better understanding of what these treatments can offer. My appointment times are longer than normal for a medspa environment because I want to leave no question unanswered, don’t believe in rushed appointments- it’s your face! Injecting is an art and you can’t rush art. Because of my esoteric interests, my appointments have a whimsical element of an affirmation deck card pull, a reminder of a mercury retrograde or a chat about your big three in astrology.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The biggest risk I took was betting on myself! I uprooted my whole life and moved to Portland only knowing 3 people here. I took a chance and quit my job with no backup plan, fully trusting in the universe to take me where I was meant to go. As soon as I decided to start my own medspa, so many incredible doors and opportunities opened for me and it’s been an incredible ride since. Everything has led up to this moment, and in just a year and a half, I placed as a finalist for best medspa in Portland, a testament to taking a chance and betting on yourself- the rest will follow!
