Hidden Gems: Meet Amber Weaver of Moon Bees Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Weaver.

Hi Amber, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey has many starting points…it’s wild to reflect back on how I got here. Little me wouldn’t believe me if I told her but I know she’d be excited, and every day I do it for her.

Ever since I was young I knew I was “a healer” but I just never knew what that would look like as an adult. As a child I always thought of healers as nurses and doctors – nothing else really. And I was way too squeamish to work those professions. For part of my childhood, magic was encouraged and nurtured. I could see people auras, though I didn’t have the name for it at the time. My mom was curious and encouraged my development when I shared with her what I was seeing. I also used to make my own “healing oils”. I would pull down herbs and spices from the spice cabinet in the kitchen and would intuitively mix them into a mason jar and add whatever cooking oil I could reach. I truly believed this concoction would heal anything from a scrape to a broken heart. Eventually my mom went back to Catholicism and the magic in our home slowly dimmed.

In my mid 20’s I began to connect with my magic again. I bought my first Oracle Deck and me and my friend would pull cards over a bottle of wine and look for insight on our latest crushes. I began meditating and doing yoga. I was collecting crystals and looking for signs and symbols in numbers and animal spirits. I remembered this form of spirituality was always where I felt most at home.

Fast forward to my early 30’s, I was going through one of the hardest breakup’s I’ve ever been through – with my best friend. I’ve never been so lost and hurt in my life. I never thought I’d live my life without this person by my side. We were supposed to be old biddies together on our front porch after our husbands eventually pass away. She was the person I’d do everything with and share all my secrets with. As our friendship was slipping away I didn’t know what to do…and I hoped it was just a momentary lapse. I waited and waited, so patiently for us to come back together. But of course that never happened. It was devastating to me.

The interesting thing is, just a few months before this friendship started to break I had won a gift certificate for a Reiki session at a silent auction. I had been called to Reiki before but I didn’t know anything about it other than it was a form of energy work. So after months of feeling lost and stuck while in the middle of this friend break I remembered I had this gift certificate. So I went to this Reiki Practitioner’s website and read all about her and Reiki. I really resonated with this person and the magic she was sharing. I learned that she was also a teacher of Reiki and I had this thought come over me that perhaps one day I might like to learn Reiki – and as I had this thought I was filled with the BIGGEST full body chills I’ve ever experienced in my whole life…even still to this day! I took that as a FnCK YES from my spirit guides!! So I booked my Reiki session with the intention to learn more about becoming a certified Reiki Practitioner myself.

Receiving that Reiki session was absolutely life changing for me! It gave me so much permission to choose myself and it opened the door to the life long healing I had been neglecting. I felt completely transformed and so much lighter. I was no longer paralyzed by the sorrow I had been experiencing for the last several months over this severed friendship. After my session I just knew I had to learn Reiki and help others in this profound way.

A few months later I began my learning journey with my Reiki practitioner/teacher. There I began to unlock my spiritual gifts and reconnect with old ones that I had stuffed down or tried to ignore. I learned about my psychic gifts and how to better control them so that I wasn’t as overwhelmed by them. It was like I was cracked wide open! This is really where it all started.

Over the next few years I became fully certified as a Reiki Master Teacher and Drummer. I consumed everything I could from psychic abilities to past lives. I indulge in self care practices and tarot. I studied herbalism and did rituals to become a Hedge Witch. I was holding moon circles at my house with friends. I was manifesting my dreams. All while healing myself and my past. I was making so many new friends along the way who were also interested in witchy things and personal development. I couldn’t help but reflect on how transformational my life had become after my “best friend” decided to walk away from our friendship. I realized how much I held myself back from doing the things that interested me because I always wanted to do everything with her. She’d always say “yes” and then we never would. So I’d wait…but we would never do the thing. I was finally saying YES to myself!

At the time I didn’t realize just how transformational life could really get. I thought I’d get the chance to help people here and there with Reiki and I’d continue to gather with friends in my backyard to work with the moon. But that was the extent of it. In the back of my mind I’d fantasize about owning a cool witchy shop one day, but I couldn’t really fully allow myself to have that dream come to fruition. It was too big…too scary. At the time, I had worked for the same company for 14 years…I had insurance and a 401K. I had bills to pay and had to contribute to my household. No way could I ever leave all of that to have a Witchy Shop and become a full time healer.

In 2020, just a couple of months before the COVID lockdown happened, my husband lost his job that he’d been at for over a decade. He had been pushed out and had no idea what he was going to do. Mid February or so he started working for this Solar Sales company and it seemed to have a lot of potential at the time. Even once the lockdown happened he still managed to be fairly good at this new job and was seeing some success. After a year in this new job he was doing really well in his position. In early spring of 2021, he began to encourage me to leave my job so that I could fully focus on my Reiki practice and building my business. I had really leaned into making it an official business during the pandemic and I think he saw my effort and the potential I had that I couldn’t yet see. I wasn’t ready to fully leave my muggle job. We had insurance and some other perks. It still felt too scary. Around this same time, he had seen one of the owners of the company he worked for posting on social media marketing their company to Oregon (we were living in Colorado at the time). So his ears perked up…we had contemplated moving out of Denver for years. Maybe we’d like Oregon? So he asked his boss about it, assuming they were trying to open an office there. That wasn’t exactly the plan – the owner grew up in Southern Oregon so he was mostly sharing to see if he could land some deals out there. But this started a whole conversation about the potential of them opening an office in Oregon. So my husband and I planned a trip for his birthday in April to come check out Ashalnd, Oregon to see if we liked it and after 3 days we were completely in love with this area! So they scheduled a working trip in early May to see how the market was out here. They told him if he sells 3 deals they’ll open an office in Southern Oregon (spoiler – he sold 10 deals that week!). The day before he left to go on that working trip I received a call from the HR department at my work. They had told me that they were downsizing the company and my team was being affected. My options – I could either take a severance and work 2 more months to tie up loose ends or I could reapply for my position and maybe get one of the spots. No one at my office even knew I was potentially considering moving so I told them I would talk to my husband and get back to them. As soon as I hung up the phone I told my husband “We’re moving to Oregon!”. The universe was literally giving me an out with a bonus! 3 months later we had sold our house, packed up our 2 dogs and our cat and headed west to our new home!

Over the next year I worked completely remote on my business, Moon Bees Wellness and continued my personal development. I had hired a psychic mentor and learned more about channeling and past life healing. I was seeing clients over zoom and creating and selling magical products that I shipped to strangers around the country. It was pretty small scale at the time but I was now fully in on my dream. I knew one day I wanted my brick and mortar business but I wasn’t exactly on the hunt for it. It still felt too scary. But we were in a good place financially with my severance and the sale of our house that it wasn’t impossible.

October of 2022 I had started a podcast with my friend/hair stylist called Waking Up The Witch. Right around the same time my husband’s company was looking for a more permanent office space. We happened to be walking around downtown Medford when we looked up above our favorite brunch spot and noticed a For Lease sign in the window. For some reason, I was the one who decided to call the number. The landlord’s friend who was helping show the place worked right around the corner so she agreed to come meet us right away. We walked up this kinda funky old stairwell and at the top of the stairs we were greeted by these magnificent floor to ceiling windows that opened up into the grooviest little room with stunning carpentry ceilings and exposed brick walls. I lit up! On the right was another room that mimicked the first room but without the exposed windows. Then, behind a door on the left was a giant open room with access to a bathroom and a back office. My husband and I both looked at each other and realized not only could the company he worked for have an office space, but in fact, I could open my first (literal) brick and mortar boutique and healing space. We could rent the entire space and sublease the bigger room to his company. It was nearly perfect – there were just these super old nasty carpets that held a very peculiar undesirable smell. The landlord agreed to replace the carpets and by mid October we had the keys to this commercial space!

By March of 2023 I was officially open for business! The first main room with the gorgeous full framed windows was my little boutique space where I was selling crystals, ethically sourced sage bundles from my home state, New Mexico, journals, oracle and tarot decks, candles, and of course a few cute trinkets and jewelry. The room to the right became my healing room where I could see in person clients, and of course record my new podcast with my friend Taylar. And we subleased the big room on the left to the company my husband worked for. This made it feel so much more safe to start my business. The financial burden was far less since we could get half the bills paid for. It was the perfect start.

It’s now been over 3 years since I opened the doors to the public. Some days I still can’t believe that this is my life! We have since taken over the entire space and no longer have to sublease the big room. There are over 30 local creators and vendors in the shop that I do consignment with. I love getting to be a home to so many amazing people right here in my community! We host several events throughout the month, including New and Full Moon circles. I have 2 other amazing women who work out of Moon Bees and share their gifts and magic with the community. One of the women, Alisha, was actually my very first in person local client at Moon Bees. We now are partners in creating Witch School and our main focus is helping people connect with their own spiritual gifts while gaining confidence in their abilities through our Intuitive Psychic Development course. Alisha, Taylar and I also created an event company called Moonlight & Magic which is a Witchy pop-up highlighting local magic in Southern Oregon. My podcast Waking Up The Witch has really gained some traction this year. We have been able to interview so many amazing people over the years and this year we were invited to interview many witchy authors with Red Wheel/Weiser Publishing Company. I’m literally getting to talk to people I admire and that I carry their work in my boutique! It’s truly unreal!

Every day I leave Moon Bees so tired but so fulfilled! I always smile at the top of the stairs and am just in awe that I have created this life for myself. I am so grateful for every single part of this journey. All roads have led me to this very place in life and I’m just so excited to see what’s next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a business owner is certainly not for the faint of heart. There are so many ups and downs. Not having a reliable source of income has tested me over and over again…but I continue to trust the universe and my vision and I’m shown over and over again I’m in the right place. My husbands job has changed a lot while I’ve been in the middle to building my business. So nothing has ever felt like a guarantee. So many times I’ve worried I could lose it all. But at the end of the day I am always grateful to even have the chance to try! I have grown in so many ways that I will forever cherish every part of this experience. And I never take it for granted.

Witch School Online is coming soon! Alisha and I have been teaching Intuitive Psychic Development for the past 2 years in our community and we are currently working on creating self paced offerings online so we can help anyone looking for this guidance around the world. We always joke that there’s no handbook for our intuitive gifts so we are creating that and helping everyone understand that being psychic is an innate gift to us all.

How do you define success?
Success to me is joy and fulfillment. If you are trying then you are succeeding. It takes a lot of courage to simply try. Any “failures” along the way are just opportunities for growth. The only way to truly fail is to do nothing. So take baby steps towards your vision.
