Today we’d like to introduce you to Amika Bamrungsri.
Hi Amika, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
An American dream was a put in my goal since I was a kid. Born in Thailand but based in Oregon. Being an Asian and living in America was not easy to pursue my dream at first start. Yet I fight for it even I was not graduated from Chef school, had zero knowledge how to cook.
Working as a waitress for years. Then started my own business from small food cart in 2010 at downtown Portland Oregon until now I have my brick and mortal restaurant and a suburb food cart location.
I believe I am a real fighter, never give up. Only need a light to make it brighter.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not really my restaurant suffer from loss for years, also lack of helpers and all hidden problems. On time I don’t even have enough money to pay my employees, do not have cashflows. I am trying to survive my business by doing on my own legs also with a strong teamwork so yes! I made it till today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Gin Thai Brasserie?
A Local Family own Northern Thai restaurant located in Portland OR. Our foods mostly are traditional Northern Thai Lanna flavors. Our Signature Dish that is Famous for called Khao Soi, an egg noodles absorb in heavy, slow-simmered curry broth.
I was trying to bring the soul of the streets of Chiang Mai to the heart of Portland Oregon even I did not have a recipe passed down so instead I had created a dish.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
