Hidden Gems: Meet David Lee of MyRxPro

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Lee.

Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I spent years working as a professor of geriatrics and clinical pharmacist. Day in and day out, I kept seeing the same heartbreaking pattern: aging parents taking 10, 12, or 15 different pills, while their adult children sat across from them completely overwhelmed by a kitchen counter covered in pill bottles.

The problem is that doctor visits are squeezed down to about eight minutes, and retail pharmacies are rushed to fill prescriptions as fast as possible. Nobody has the time to step back, look at the big picture, and ask: “Is this combination of drugs actually helping, or is it making them sicker?”

That’s why I started MyRxPro—to give families a dedicated advocate in their corner. It’s also why I wrote my book, “Fewer Pills, More Paws: Caring for Your Aging Parents and Lessons from Our Pets”, blending real pharmacology with the grounding, simple lessons our pets teach us about taking care of each other.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. The hardest part has been going against a healthcare system that is financially wired to do the exact opposite of what I do.

Insurance companies will seamlessly pay for a patient’s 15th prescription, but they won’t pay for a pharmacist to sit down with a family and figure out how to safely take them off five of them. The system easily pays for prescribing, but not for deprescribing. Because of that, most people naturally assume, “If insurance doesn’t cover it, why should I pay out of pocket?”

Overcoming that mindset meant realizing I couldn’t just sit in a traditional clinic and wait for people to find me. I had to go directly to the families who needed help.

That’s why we evolved into a robust multimedia firm—producing a weekly YouTube channel, an in-depth Substack newsletter, and publishing my book, Fewer Pills, More Paws. We realized that free, accessible education was the only way to bridge the gap and show families what’s actually possible.

It hasn’t been easy building a media platform from scratch alongside a clinical practice, but I’m incredibly proud that we are on the absolute forefront of a mission very few people in healthcare are talking about. We are on the doorstep of a massive population boom of aging adults. Society simply isn’t prepared for the medication overload that’s coming, but through our videos, writing, and advocacy, we’re making sure families are ready before the crisis hits their own kitchen table.

We’ve been impressed with MyRxPro, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At MyRxPro, we act as an independent guide and advocate for family caregivers.

What We Do: We review entire medication lists to spot dangerous interactions, help families safely cut down on unnecessary pills, walk them through Alzheimer’s and dementia treatments, and give them exact game plans for doctor visits and insurance fights.

What Sets Us Apart: We don’t sell drugs, and we don’t answer to insurance companies or pharmaceutical brands. Our only job is to stand in the family’s corner. We take deep clinical knowledge and turn it into simple, human steps.

What I Want Readers to Know: You don’t have to accept severe side effects—like constant nausea, weight loss, falls, or confusion—as “just part of getting old.” Caregiving doesn’t have to feel like drowning in pill bottles. With the right strategy, you can get control back.

What I’m Most Proud Of: Building our YouTube and Caregiver community where caregivers get clear advice every week, and publishing “Fewer Pills, More Paws” to help families find some peace of mind.

How do you think about luck?
Good luck put incredible mentors in my path early on who taught me to look at the whole human being, not just a lab report. I was also lucky to always have great pets around—they have an amazing way of reminding you what taking care of someone really looks like.

The “bad luck” was having to watch a broken healthcare system fail so many families. It was tough to see, but without that frustration, I never would have started MyRxPro or written the book.
