Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Seymour.
Hi tara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started doing yoga in my early 20’s. I instantly, knew that there was something different about Yoga. I began to learn all kinds of new things. Over years of hard practice, I became in tune with my body. I leaned how to breathe. I learned how to feel. I had several teachers along the way that inspired me, took interest in my practiced, and pushed me beyond what I thought was possible. I decided I wanted t5o become a yoga teacher in 2012, when my current teacher left Bend and moved to California.
I thought it would be fun to do with my, at the time 60 nyear old dad, who I had gotten into yoga as well. He agreed and lived in a motorhome in our yard for a month. We commuted to bend everyday. My 2 kids were in school and I thought I would be a great yoga teacher.
5years later I asked my dad if he wanted to go to india together and study yoga and get a higher certification. Again, he agreed. We had a great time. We were gone a month. My kids were oldeer now and it seemed the right thing to do at the time.
I began teaching yoga in Bemd and Sisters. I has weekly classes and still do. However, I knew my calling was greater, I knew that I was suppose to open a studio in Sisters. But how? I am going through a two year divorce. I had very limited finacial support, if any. Yet I was being called to serve. I was being called to teach to people. I was being called to listen to my heart and trust that everything would be ok. Bit by bit, I had a dream and a vision. I found an amazing space in downtown SIsters and started by doing massages, facials, and offering a wellness community. A year after opening twisted wellness, I had the courage to open twisted Yoga, Sept 1st is our first class. I am making it free, just to get people in the door. I am also offering a community class once a week that is on a sliding scale, as I want to make it accessable to everyone.
I mainly teach a vinyasa flow type of yoga, and also teach private lessons. I am going to eventually hire more teachers, but for now I am going to be the main teacher. It is very scary and hope and pray that this a need in our small western town.
That is my story about how a yogi, mom, massage therapist, opened her very own wellness center in a tiny western themed town in Oregon.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business as a single woman in her 50’s, has had many struggles. Getting a divorce in a small town has many challenges. EVerybody knows you and knows all your business. I would say that drawing on the locals is your bread and butter. However we get a bunch of tourism, so that will also be helpful.
A huge struggle for me, is that I ned to have should surgury in May, and I am now in recovery for that. It has helped me learn and see how modifying yoga poses is so important.
We’ve been impressed with twisted yoga llc, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We offer daily yoga classes, as well as massage therapy, and skin care. We also have partnered with a PA who is offering HRT and weight loss through peptides. The PA also offers botax and other skin related fillers and treatments.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Life is extremely challenging and just learning how to be present in you body, and breathe can help to regulate your nervous system so much. Yoga called to me and now I just want to share it with the world one class at a time.
