Hi Youtheary, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re sisters, raised in Hillsboro, Oregon, and Sweet T Bakery is our way of honoring our late father and the Cambodian heritage he passed down to us. Growing up, food was how our family celebrated, connected, and shared our culture.
During the pandemic, Soma, who has lupus, underwent her third kidney transplant. As she recovered, we found ourselves back in the kitchen making the desserts we grew up with. Baking became a form of healing for our family. It gave us a sense of purpose, brought moments of joy during an incredibly difficult season, and allowed us to reconnect with the recipes and traditions our father had shared with us. What began as a way to care for one another quickly grew into something much bigger. Friends, neighbors, and the community began asking for more, and before we knew it, Sweet T Bakery was born.
Today, Sweet T Bakery is a sister-owned bakery that blends Southeast Asian-inspired flavors with classic American baking. More than serving desserts, our goal is to create a welcoming space where people can gather, celebrate, and experience a piece of Cambodian culture. Every dessert we make tells a story, honors our father’s legacy, and reflects the community that helped make this dream possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Growing up as Cambodian Americans and the daughters of immigrant parents, we didn’t see much representation of our culture in culinary spaces. From the beginning, it was important to us that Sweet T Bakery stayed true to who we are and where we come from.
One of our biggest challenges was finding the balance between preserving the authenticity of Cambodian flavors while introducing them in a way that felt familiar and approachable. We never wanted to compromise our culture just to fit a trend. At the same time, many of the ingredients we grew up with aren’t readily available in the United States the way they are in Cambodia. We spent countless hours researching, testing recipes, and sourcing the highest quality local ingredients that could honor the flavors and traditions we were raised with.
That journey taught us that authenticity isn’t about copying something exactly. It’s about honoring its roots with intention. Every dessert we create reflects that balance, celebrating our Cambodian heritage while inviting people of all backgrounds to experience something new.

Sweet T Bakery is more than a bakery. It’s a place where culture, community, and creativity come together.
As a boutique dessert shop, we’re proud to introduce Cambodian-inspired desserts and Southeast Asian flavors while blending them with classic American baking. Whether someone is trying pandan, ube, black sesame, or palm sugar for the first time, we want every visit to feel welcoming, approachable, and memorable. We specialize in creating desserts that are as beautiful as they are delicious.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just serve desserts, we create experiences. From cake decorating classes and private events to our in-house Makers Mart featuring local entrepreneurs, we’ve intentionally created a space where people can gather, celebrate, and discover something new.
What we’re most proud of is staying true to our roots. Every detail of Sweet T Bakery reflects our commitment to preserving Cambodian culture while creating representation we didn’t often see growing up. We hope every guest leaves with more than something sweet. We hope they leave with a greater appreciation for Cambodian culture, a memorable experience, and a reason to come back.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think of our journey as being driven by luck. We’ve certainly been fortunate to have an incredible community that has embraced Sweet T Bakery, but those opportunities came from years of building relationships, showing up, and staying true to who we are.
If anything, the biggest “lucky” moments have been the people we’ve met along the way. From customers and community partners to local organizations and fellow small business owners, we’ve been surrounded by people who believed in our vision before we ever opened our doors. Their encouragement and support helped turn a dream into reality.
We believe that when you lead with authenticity, work hard, and stay connected to your purpose, opportunities have a way of finding you. We’re incredibly grateful for every person who has been part of our journey, and we never take that support for granted.
