Inspiring Conversations with Danielle Day of Evoke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Day.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always had a deep urge to create something for the world and to be able to work for myself- I’ve always felt highly claustrophobic in office jobs and corporate life. Over time I’ve been pulled again and again to helping others. As someone who’s experienced trauma in her life, that pull has become a desire to create spaces that feel safe enough for others to be able to drop into their body, to experience what it feels like to be seen and valued for exactly who they are- in this very moment.

After abruptly closing my pop-up yoga business during the pandemic, I decided to dive deeper into bodywork and complete Massage Therapy School.

As time goes on, I continue to be amazed with the therapeutic benefits of touch and what can happen when someone slows down and listens to what the body is saying. I knew I needed to open my own practice after working for spa-type establishments. I was craving a slower pace, more face to face time with my clients, and more control over my own Massage Therapy offering.

Evoke is my offering to the world. I want everyone who walks through my studio door to feel like they are welcomed and celebrated for exactly who they are.

Evoke is a queer + woman owned space offering Therapeutic Massage.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I decided to open Evoke a month after moving to Eugene, and not knowing a single soul here. Even though I do have a Marketing degree, I really wanted to build my clientele slowly and with intention, rather than just shooting out ads and marketing. It was important to me to create a community that felt authentic to my offering, I wanted us to be a good fit for one another. It’s definitely been a slower labor of love, but I can genuinely say I love my clients. I feel so grateful to never dread my work days, I’m so excited to see them and work with them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in a gentle approach to deep bodywork. When I first began offering Massage Therapy I was really drawn to Deep Tissue work. Over time I have come to realize that pressure isn’t quite as important as pace. I move really slowly, giving my clients and I a chance to listen and notice. I’m passionate about flowing versus forcing and I’m not interested in “hurting you” or “beating you up” as I’ve had requested before. I have studied the nervous system for many years and Evoke is rooted in offering Trauma-Informed care, and that starts with listening to the body and following its lead during sessions. You can expect a blend of pain relief, deep tissue techniques, myofascial release, assisted stretching, breathwork, and whatever is needed in that moment.

I also offer Cupping Therapy.
