Inspiring Conversations with Doris C. Woods of The Woods Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doris C. Woods.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my career in real estate because I’ve always been drawn to work that allows me to serve people in a meaningful way while also helping them build something lasting for themselves and their families. For me, real estate was never just about houses. It was about opportunity, stability, legacy, and helping people make confident decisions during some of the biggest moments of their lives.

Over time, that passion grew into what is now The Woods Group, a family-centered real estate business that I run alongside my wife. My work has been shaped by my love for community, relationship-building, and creating a client experience that feels personal, supportive, and thoughtful from start to finish. I’ve found a special passion in helping clients navigate unique situations, especially those looking for homes that truly fit the way their families live, grow, and build wealth together.

My journey has not been perfectly straight or easy, but every season has taught me something valuable about resilience, reinvention, and staying rooted in purpose. Along the way, I’ve also expanded my creativity through Small & Mighty Events, which reflects another side of who I am as an entrepreneur and someone who loves creating memorable experiences for people, and I sit on the board for the Oregon Realtist where we support democracy in housing.

Today, I’m proud to be building businesses that reflect who I am at my core: someone who believes in community, legacy, service, and doing business with heart. Where I am now is the result of faith, hard work, and a willingness to keep growing, and I’m excited for what’s still ahead.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. There have been a lot of moments where I’ve had to keep showing up even when I felt uncertain, stretched thin, or discouraged. Building a business while also managing real life, family responsibilities, finances, and personal growth can be a lot heavier than people realize.

One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to keep believing in myself and in the vision, even during seasons that felt slow or unclear. There were times when I questioned whether I was making the right decisions, whether the sacrifices were worth it, and how to keep moving forward without burning myself out. Entrepreneurship can feel very lonely at times, especially when you’re carrying so much responsibility and still trying to lead with excellence.

I’ve also had to be honest with myself about the pressure of trying to do everything well. Being a business owner, a wife, a mother, and a leader in my community is a blessing, but it can also be emotionally and mentally exhausting. There were seasons where I was pouring into everyone else and realizing I had not left enough room to care for myself in the same way.

At the same time, those struggles have changed me for the better. They’ve made me more resilient, more compassionate, and more intentional about the life and businesses I’m building. I think one of the biggest lessons has been understanding that success is not just about pushing through. It’s also about learning, adjusting, resting when needed, and trusting that growth is still happening even when it does not look the way you expected.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Woods Group ?
The Woods Group is a family-centered real estate business rooted in service, community, and heart. We help clients buy and sell homes throughout the Portland metro area, and we’re especially known for providing a thoughtful, relationship-driven experience that makes people feel supported from the very beginning to the very end of the process.

What really sets us apart is that we do not treat real estate like a transaction. For us, it is personal. We understand that buying or selling a home often represents a major life moment, and we take that seriously. We pride ourselves on offering white glove service with a warm, approachable style that helps clients feel informed, cared for, and confident in their decisions.

We have also become known for helping clients with unique needs, especially those searching for multigenerational homes or properties that can support the way their families truly live. I love helping people find the kind of home that feels like a needle in a haystack because it requires patience, advocacy, creativity, and a deep understanding of what matters most to the client.

Brand-wise, I am most proud that The Woods Group reflects who we really are. It is not just a business name. It represents family, trust, legacy, and doing business with heart. Everything we are building centers on service, excellence, and creating a lasting impact in the communities we serve.

I want readers to know that when they work with The Woods Group, they are getting more than an agent. They are getting a team that genuinely cares, listens well, and shows up with both professionalism and purpose. Our goal is not just to help people close deals. It is to help them make meaningful moves that support their lives, their goals, and their future.

Here’s a slightly tighter version too, in case you want something a little more magazine-polished:

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say heart has been one of the most important qualities in my success. I lead with care, and I think people can feel when that is real. Whether I’m serving clients, building community, or growing my business, I want people to feel supported, seen, and valued. I also believe resilience has played a major role. Success has required me to keep showing up, keep learning, and keep trusting the process even when the road hasn’t been easy.
