Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Adams.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey began in 2018 after the birth of my second child. When he was just five months old, I returned to work and enrolled him in childcare. It quickly became clear that he wasn’t thriving in that environment. I would visit during my lunch break to feed him and often found him strapped into a high chair, crying while the teachers attended to other children. It was heartbreaking.
At the time, I had spent well over a decade building a successful career in finance, but that experience changed my priorities. With no family to help and infant care waitlists a year long or more, I made the difficult decision to leave my career and stay home with my son. As a Sunday school teacher, I had always been passionate about children and early childhood education, and I began to dream about creating the kind of childcare program I wished had existed for my own family—a place where children are truly nurtured, valued, and given a strong educational foundation.
In 2019, I became licensed and opened Mini Miracles Childcare. What started as a leap of faith has grown into a thriving program serving 16 families in Bend, Oregon. Along the way, we’ve built meaningful relationships with children and parents alike, creating a community centered on trust, learning, and love. Looking back, I can honestly say I’ve discovered the truth behind the saying, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” This mission has allowed me to combine my passion, purpose, and profession in a way I never imagined possible.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Switching careers in my 30s came with it’s share challenges. First if all, I needed more education to be able to serve children well in a group setting. For years, I took college classes at night while working more than full time hours, raising my own family, and building Mini Miracles from the ground up.
Shortly after I started Mini Miracles Childcare, COVID-19 hit the US and my husband lost his job. We had to adapt quickly, navigating constantly changing regulations and find ways to continue supporting families during a stressful time.
These challenges actually helped shape the program we are today. My educational journey helped me build a quality early learning environment for children and my husband joined me full-time, allowing us to form a team, serving families together.
As you know, we’re big fans of Mini Miracles Childcare. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We’re a husband and wife team passionate about early childhood education. As parents ourselves, we understand that families want an early learning program where children are safe, loved, and supported. Our in-home preschool is a second home, where children are welcomed with love and receive a high-quality early education with embedded Christian values. We encourage children to practice caring for others, use kind words, show gratitude, be honest, help friends, and treat others with love and respect.
It’s our mission to provide a preschool experience that fosters curiosity, integrity, and a lifelong love of learning! Children receive the best early education when teachers and families see each other as partners, and families can connect with each other. We strive to build meaningful relationships that create a sense of community and belonging. It takes a village!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people know me as a mom and childcare provider, but most would be surprised to learn that I spent over a decade climbing the corporate ladder. While those fields seem worlds apart, my former career gave me the communication skills, discipline, and business knowledge I needed to build Mini Miracles Childcare into the program it is today. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to combine those skills with my passion for children and families.
