Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Guerra.
Hi Joanna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We have owned this property since 1990 when it was just a big pasture with a creek running through it. We raised our children here, and after they all left home we decided to make it into a wedding venue. We started having family weddings on occasion, then in 2020 started Sungate Place. We have continued making upgrades and improvements ever since, and now we have Hugo RV Glamping Retreat just across the road. Wedding guests love spending the entire weekend together there as well😊
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Just lots of incredibly hard physical labor and learning how to find great help with social media! We have had to find creative ways to find financial resources and I still work three days a week as a Dental Hygienist. My husband, Ken is the hardest worker I know and when he almost died of Covid in late 2021, he decided to build the beautiful Grand Hall. Then, last year we decided to build the stunning Bridal Suite. These two upgrades have made all of the difference and I’m so grateful he survived those weeks in the hospital.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We offer a stunning venue with indoor and outdoor spaces. We are very private and peaceful, about 10 miles from the closest city and only 2 miles from Interstate 5.
We are a historical property. This sets us apart from other venues in the area. The Applegate Trail went through our property. Our Hugo RV Glamping Retreat across the road was a historical property as well. It was Hicks Auto Camp between 1926 and 1940, then became Court Conway in the forties and fifties. It was a stopping place for travelers before going north over the mountain passes.
We offer weekend wedding experiences for guests to enjoy Southern Oregon for a few days while here from out of town. There are Rogue River Jet Boat excursions, Crater Lake is close by as well as the Redwood Forests and the Oregon Coast. There are also great shopping opportunities in Ashland and Jacksonville.
We love sharing these properties with those who want to enjoy quality time with their guests🌺
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is being able to make a difference in people’s lives for good. The more I can be an influence for good, the more successful I feel.❤️
