Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Boyd.
Hi Meg, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I’m Meg.
Movement has always been a big part of my life. I discovered yoga in college, expecting a workout, but what I found was something much deeper: strength, calm, and connection.
For years, running was my anchor. I logged more than 2,000 miles a year and trained for the Boston Marathon. Then in 2020, everything changed. A misstep on a dark road shattered my ankle and forced me to slow down.
What started as physical rehab became something much more. Yoga helped rebuild me from the inside out. It grounded me, gave me presence, and reminded me that movement can be a powerful tool for healing, resilience, and growth.
Since then, I’ve trained extensively, learned from incredible teachers, and taught thousands of classes. My teaching style blends strength, breath, and mindful movement to help people feel strong, capable, and at home in their bodies.
I opened Powerhouse Hot Yoga & Movement because I believe movement should feel empowering—not intimidating. I wanted to create community, not just classes. A place where beginners feel welcome, experienced practitioners feel challenged, and everyone feels supported exactly as they are.
Powerhouse is a space for real people – messy hair, sweaty smiles, and authentic connection.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth ride? Not even close.
Anyone who has opened a small business knows that. The day-to-day can be a lot to juggle—from finances and staffing to equipment issues, contractor delays, water leaks, and all the unexpected challenges that seem to pop up at once. Much of running a business has very little to do with the thing you actually set out to do.
I’ve also put myself out there more than ever before, and that comes with its own lessons. One of the biggest has been realizing that not everyone will understand your vision, cheer you on, or connect with what you’re building—and that’s okay.
What matters is finding your people.
For me, that’s been the most rewarding part of this journey. Building a community of people who believe in what we’re creating, support one another, and keep showing up. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s taught me so much about myself, and watching this community grow has been one of the most beautiful parts of the experience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Powerhouse Hot Yoga?
Powerhouse is an infrared heated yoga and fitness studio in downtown Salem, Oregon. We offer hot yoga, hot Pilates, sculpt, and put on incredible events designed to help people move, feel good, and connect.
What sets us apart is that we’re about so much more than a workout. Yes, our classes will challenge you. You’ll sweat, build strength, improve mobility, and leave feeling accomplished. But what we’re really creating is a community.
From day one, I wanted Powerhouse to feel welcoming, approachable, and empowering. Whether it’s your first class or your five-hundredth, our goal is for you to walk through the door and feel like you belong.
We’re known for our strong classes, great music, supportive teachers, and the energy in the room. We meet people where they are and create an experience that feels both challenging and accessible.
What I’m most proud of is the community that’s formed around Powerhouse. People come for the movement, but they stay because of how they feel. They make friends, build confidence, create healthy habits, and discover they’re capable of more than they thought.
At the end of the day, we’re not just teaching yoga and fitness classes. We’re creating a place where people can reconnect with themselves and with each other. And that’s what makes Powerhouse special.
Any big plans?
We’re celebrating one full year of Powerhouse in October 2026, and honestly, the most exciting part has been the growth. In less than a year. We’ve doubled our teaching team and welcomed nearly 2,000 people through our studio doors.
Looking ahead, we’re focused on continuing to build an incredible community both inside and outside the studio. We’re excited to expand our offerings through retreats—including our Mexico retreat in 2027—community partnerships, special events, workshops, and unique experiences that bring people together.
More than anything, we’re looking forward to continuing to grow with our members. Every class, event, and connection helps shape what Powerhouse becomes, and it feels like we’re just getting started.
