Life & Work with Andrew Loomis of Oregon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Loomis.

Hi Andrew, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was the first person in my family to get a college degree. In doing so, I decided to get an education in areas that interested me rather than ones that would just lead to a job. I earned degrees in English and Fine Arts. When I graduated, I turned to a temp-to-hire service called Kelley Temps for work and found a job at a start up company in Beaverton, Oregon. There I met a Director of Labor Relations that I pestered until he agreed to give me a chance at full time employment. Turns out that I really excelled at entry level labor relations and spent the next nine years learning the ropes. From there, I pursued a number of advancement opportunities until I occupied the VP of HR role at a healthcare company in Oregon. While in that leadership role, in 2019, I also opened my own Human Resources Consulting practice supporting small businesses. In 2025, I left the corporate world to pursue my consulting practice full time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My career journey has been fair. I had mostly great leaders to learn from but I had at least two terrible experiences to learn from as well. Oddly enough, it is a good learning opportunity in HR to have been laid off, which has happened to me and to have worked for a boss that does not maintain ethical standards, which I have as well. These negative experiences shape how I developed as a leader and how I treat the people that trust me to be their manager, consultant or advisor.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an HR consultant and work on the full spectrum of HR challenges that businesses face. The areas that I find most rewarding include Employee Relations, Employee Engagement and Labor Relations. These areas are often fraught with conflict but I seem them as opportunities to find solutions that will allow people to make their work lives better.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
