Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Russell.
Jim , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s a simple math equation – Architecture + Energy & Resource efficiency + product marketing & branding = ideabox. My career began in architecture which led to implementing efficiency programs in factory built housing which led to working on national energy programs with national brands & retailers. That led me back to design work which reignited an interest in residential design in the factory built space.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Initially most people did not understand what we were trying to do. What??? Order a house online? The first couple of years were primarily educating the public and clients on trusting us to design a pre-fab home, build it in a factory and bring it to their site. That was mind blowing! After 20 years, it is still an exciting process for us.

I am the designer for ideabox, llc – we’ve been fascinated with bringing an architectural design approach to prefab (Manufactured & Modular) construction offering beautiful, cost efficient solutions for our clients.
