Today we’d like to introduce you to OLIVIA COPPOCK.
Hi OLIVIA, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My passion for photography began in middle school when I took a photo of a flower while vacationing in England, and I was so incredibly proud of how it turned out that I immediately started taking more and more photos, which turned into photography classes in high school, and from there majoring in photography at Seattle Pacific University. After assisting other photographers at weddings I soon discovered how much I enjoyed wedding photography, and after graduating college I took a year off to teach English in France, but in my free time I was taking more online courses geared directly towards being a successful wedding photographer. After the pandemic there was a huge surge in elopements and micro-weddings and I loved the freedom elopements afforded to shoot in beautiful settings in nature and soon pivoted my business to Oregon Coast elopements.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started my professional wedding photography business in January of 2021 right off the heels of the pandemic in a time of great uncertainty in the wedding industry and a lot of couples were delaying their weddings.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a wedding photographer who specializes in elopements along the Oregon Coast with rich, deep colors, helping my couples feel comfortable in front of the camera. I pride myself on being an lgbtq+ affirming vendor, providing a safe space for queer eloping couples who can completely and authentically be themselves so they can surround themselves with people who wholeheartedly accept and celebrate them.
As someone who grew up going to the Oregon Coast on vacation it is one of my favorite places in the world and I love being able to share so many different and unique locations with my clients, many of whom fly from all over the country to get married in this beautiful state.
What were you like growing up?
I was a nerdy theatre kid through and through, the life of the party who wore her quirky-ness on her sleeve; and when people called me weird I’d say “yeah, I am!” I loved escaping into fantasy worlds in both books and video games, and still have a deep fondness for fairy tales and richly illustrated storybooks. I had a big imagination as a kid and loved playing pretend with my friends and getting others to laugh. I’m the baby of the family and the only girl, with two older brothers. I had a very deep love of animals and befriended the feral cat that lived under our family’s porch and was fearless when it came time to gathering the eggs from my family’s chickens.
