Life & Work with Tim Hallam of Oregon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Hallam.

Hi Tim, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Mount Shasta, California and developed an interest in landscape photography at an early age. After high school I attended a local community college where I studied metal fabrication and welding through a trades program. Soon after I moved to Oregon where I worked in the metal fabrication industry for a number of years before deciding to pursue photography full-time in 2016. Today, 10 years after making the leap, I sell my fine art prints at various art shows along the west coast and teach both group and private photography workshops. Following my passion for nature photography and teaching others how to capture the beauty around them has been and continues to be a very fulfilling journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Much like the landscapes I photograph, the journey has many peaks and valleys.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I generally consider myself a landscape photographer, however I am most known for my wide-field astrophotography, which is essentially nighttime landscape photography. I refer to this type of imagery as “nightscapes” for short. I occasionally photograph wildlife too, when opportunities present themselves. Producing large highly detailed prints and teaching photography workshops is my specialty and passion.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up in Mount Shasta provided incredible access to the outdoors. Hiking and climbing at an early age and the desire to share photos from these outings with friends and family is what prompted my initial interest in photography.
