Today we’d like to introduce you to Behireta Corbadzic.
Hi Behireta, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Bosnian refugee who started life in America in Boulder Colorado in summer of 2000. Had to lear the language and adopt to the new life style. In June 2010 I got my GED and same summer registered at the Community Collage of Colorado in downtown Denver for some English classes. In June 2018 received my Doctor of Chiropractic medicine diploma. All that while being single mom since 2008, taking care of my two young daughters and ill parents. My late father was diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2009 and finally lost his long and painful battle in October 2015 when I was 4th quarter of DC program at University of Western States. After graduation I found a job at Sunnybrook Chiropractic, Milwaukie Oregon. In 2022 I did one more huge step without really thinking and bought a small established clinic in Beaverton. I did the same when I applied for DC program, I realized what I got myself into it when I was in the program. Couple of weeks after I purchased the clinic I was trying to figure out if I really did this and was that a good idea. Due to the pandemic the clinic was slow and doctor kept it without employees, so I was alone for several months. Today I have 6 employees, 3 chiropractic assistance who share responsibility of front desk and work with patients. I also have two part time licensed massage therapist and an office manager.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
oh boy, anything but smooth road. Even though I speak English well, sometimes that is still my big struggle. During the exams they could just rewrite question and I would get lost. I would answer it wrong just because I misunderstood the question. Sometimes during midterms I would have to take my dad to the hospital, or my mom for her surgery. While living in Colorado I had to work full time, make sure my dad never misses his chemo therapy, doctors appointments or my kids miss the school.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Meaning Behind FAHMA
While FAHMA may sound like an Arabic word, to me, it is an acronym for the “village” that carried me to where I am today. I registered this business to honor the people who stood by me when I was struggling to become a chiropractor.
F – Fikret: My late father. He stood by me even when I didn’t deserve it. He moved with me to Oregon so I could attend my DC program, despite being ill and leaving behind an amazing community in Denver.
Fata: My baby sister, who helped in countless ways, from proofreading my essays to listening to my cries when I was overwhelmed.
A – Admir: My late brother, the best big brother a sister could have. At 6’5″, his heart was bigger than the universe. He died as a soldier in the Bosnian war, giving his life so I could continue mine.
H – Hajrija: My beloved mother. She knows how to push my buttons, but she went above and beyond while I was studying—bringing me food, praying through the night before my exams, and supporting me in her own unique way.
M – Medina: My eldest daughter. She knows me better than anyone and worked part-time during my schooling to help us pay the bills. She is my advisor and the shoulder I cry on.
A – Admira (Addie): My youngest daughter. She challenged me from birth and stood strong for our family, working to support us when her sister was injured in a car crash. She set the bar so high that I expect every future Chiropractic Assistant to be just like her.
If it weren’t for God and these people, I wouldn’t be here. As they say, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and this village raised a doctor.
Our Practice
I am a Diversified Chiropractor. At FAHMA Wellness we provide adjustments and rehab therapy using modalities like Class 4 laser, shockwave therapy, cupping, and massage. We believe in working for people, not numbers. We take the time to listen to your struggles and focus on resolving the root cause of your pain, not just masking the symptoms. We work with compassion and drive to restore people bodies and alleviate their pain.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Grew up with my late brother and 5 boy cousins. Bookworm, always on top of my class. Farm girl. Always dreamed of education and career, but never predicted it would be in a different country. Oh I dreamed of being a singer, the dream that couldn’t be farther away from he reality. Today, I’m glad life turned me towards medicine.
