Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonny Koeber.
Hi Bonny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I worked as an Anesthesiologist for over 30 years in Texas. I retired in 2019 after the unexpected death of my husband from a heart attack.
I moved to Oregon in 2020 to volunteer for my spiritual teacher Gangaji. Her Husband Eli Jaxon-Bear invited me to be part of The Leela Psilocybin Facilitation School which started in January of 2023. I taught pharmacology of psilocybin and also trained to be a facilitator. I started legally facilitating psilocybin in September of 2023.
Facilitating this sacred medicine is the most important thing I have done in my life. It is amazingly helpful for so many people. I have facilitated about 280 journeys at this point. I stand in awe of its healing power with most every journey I facilitate.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I feel it was universal movement which brought me to Ashland in 2020 at the perfect time to be eligible to become a facilitator in Oregon. For me it has been an extension of my anesthesia training…observing people for many hours in a dark room! Making sure they are safe!
Facilitation is not without its difficult days. It is not for the faint of heart. I do feel all of my life has lead me to this point. Allowing this medicine to do its healing, while I stay in the background ensuring the client is safe in the space. That’s my job… while the client and psilocybin have a conversation!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I worked as an obstetrical anesthesiologist in Texas for thirty years.
My last employment from 2005-2020 was with The University of Texas in San Antonio.
I loved my job. I was very lucky to have gone to medical school after being a Registered Nurse working in CCU and PACU for six years. I loved medicine and loved education. Those interest laid my path through to medicine and then to facilitation of psilocybin.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I work with an amazing company called Satya Therapeutics in Ashland, Oregon. It is a family run business with one of the owners Andreas Met also being a grower and facilitator. There are 10-15 facilitators who work there. It is a major collaboration of support and experience within this group. Many years of experience in all different walks of life that culminate in the care of all of the clients who come to Satya.
Mutual respect and support from the owners… to other facilitators there. I don’t think I could do this job as effectively without this group of support and experience around me.
