Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Renzema.
Hi Dylan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Mexico and grew up surrounded by the food and traditions of Yucatán. Cooking has always been a big part of my life because of my family. Before opening my restaurant, I worked different jobs, but I always dreamed of owning a place where I could share the food I grew up eating. That dream became Hanal Kiin Yucatán Food in Keizer, Oregon. It hasn’t been an easy journey, and there have been plenty of challenges, but seeing people enjoy our food makes it all worth it. My goal is to bring a real taste of Yucatán to the community and share a piece of my culture with every meal we serve.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. Starting a restaurant came with a lot of challenges, from learning how to run a business to building a loyal customer base. There were tough days, but every challenge helped me grow, and seeing people enjoy our food makes it all worth it.

I’m most proud of the community we’ve built. Seeing new customers become regulars and hearing people recommend us to their friends means a lot. My goal has always been to give people a great experience and a reason to keep coming back.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned that success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning. Every challenge has made me a better business owner.
