Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Brown.
Hi Elizabeth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been a lover of self care and wellness ever since I was a little girl – especially skincare. I found the ritual so fun and expressive, and deeply individualized. It felt like there was a place for everyone in skincare. In college, I dreamed of opening my own skincare line. During my time in Portland State University’s business program, my mom one day suggested that I should attend aesthetics school to learn more about ingredients. I quickly realized during my time at aesthetics school that I loved personally extending that ritual to clients, meeting them, and helping them achieve their goals together. Although the skincare line is on the back burner, a beautiful, fun, inclusive spa in NW Portland was born!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is there ever a smooth road in small business? I opened shortly before Covid-19 hit, and we survived by delivering at home facial kits to our clients doorsteps. I got married and had a baby in 2023, which made me realized thick in the postpartum phase that I needed to expand and have staff as continuing as a sole proprietorship was out of the question. We had always rented rooms out of other businesses, and in 2025 we finally got the storefront of our dreams. It took 6 months to complete the buildout, and we were taking clients behind a large curtain from Wayfair to make it work. About one week after our grand opening I was hospitalized and diagnosed with multiple sclerosis – a new challenge I am still learning daily. No matter what happened, I kept positive, delivered exceptional care, and truly loved every second of it all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Skin Rinse?
We offer a friendly, lively spin on traditional spas. Immediately when you walk into our space you’ll notice warm lighting, upbeat music, and likely laughter from one of our treatment rooms. Our fastest growing feature would be The Rinse Society, where we are helping our clients reach their skin goals in a new way. The Rinse Society Affiliates get a 90-minute slot monthly at a set price where they come as they are, tell their aesthetician their skin goals, and we take care of the rest. This completely eliminates the guesswork of booking and financial constraints – no service is off the table and is entirely included. We get the opportunity to treat our clients skin exactly as we would treat our own, no upselling, no confusion. Not only that, but our Affiliates get priority booking, 10% off all skincare, and more. We are truly proud of The Rinse Society!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Portland. I am technically a California transplant – but in my defense I was 4 when I moved here, putting 30 years of “Oregonian” under my belt. My favorite part is how green Portland is! Our spa is right next to Forest Park, and we have views of both the city and the forest. My least favorite thing is how lost Portland felt after Covid – but slowly the spark is coming back.
