Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Addington.
Kara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
With a degree in Theatre Arts, I had been living as an actor for 14 years when the 2020 pandemic hit Los Angeles. The industry shut down and shows were cancelled. And while we struggled as artists to remain connected through Zoom, we still had to pay Hollywood rent. So, I left. I left my friends, my home and what was left of my career. I traveled over 3000 miles back to my hometown in NY, suffering a brutal heartbreak along the way. I had never been so alone, so scared and so lost. But a funny thing happens when you find yourself in the darkest of lows. There is nothing left to lose.
So I bought an RV and began traveling. I created content. Travel videos in the different cities I found. I visited old friends. I stayed in truck stops and Wal Mart parking lots. I got into fitness and hiking. I spent a lot of time driving, reading and healing.
By 2022, I came to Vancouver Washington to visit family. By then I had my personal training certification, nutritionist certification and I had competed in my first bodybuilding show. I was 2 years sober. I got a dog, and a job, and eventually sold the RV and got an apartment.
Today, I am still a Master’s Bikini competitor in the NPC. I have a job in management in the health and wellness industry. I still have the same car and the same dog, but everything else has grown and blossomed more than I could have ever imagined.
Now I create content to empower others to take risks. To own their journey. To become their best selves.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. Heartbreak after heartbreak followed me. Addiction almost took the life of my partner. Financial troubles, employment issues and family trauma were all close by.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I don’t act anymore, and the industry doesn’t much interest me. But I do love to create and connect with people. I love social media and I have an active Tiktok and Instagram account. I am also a life model for artists’ classes and workshops in the PNW.
Even in bodybuilding, I bring my light and love of the stage to competitions and performance. I’m the most proud that I never gave up. And that I chose myself.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My health, and educating others on how important their health is. Be it mental or physical, our health is all we have. We cannot enjoy this life to the fullest if the vessel we are in is not strong and functional.
