Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Hardy.
Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the city of Chicago and moved to Amherst, MA for undergrad. I double majored in pre-vet and animal sciences and rowed as a lightweight rower on their Division 1 team! After graduation I moved to Tucson to do an internship at the zoo. I met my husband and we decided to go to grad school together (he’s a human dentist!). We both went to Western University of Health Sciences in LA and then moved to Eugene after graduation. We have been here for about 11 years now.
I started as a GP but slowly started to fall in love with dentistry. I started taking more educational classes on dentistry and eventually was trained by three different veterinary dentists. I continue to work with one of them today. I gained my masters in veterinary dentistry around the same time I opened my business, Elevated Veterinary Dentistry. I was traveling to clinics over the last 2.5 years and decided it was time to open my own doors. We opened about 8 weeks ago and are loving every moment of it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was hard for me to let go of general medicine to pursue an advanced degree in pet dentistry only because I love my clients so much. But ultimately I had to do what made me the happiest, and thats dentistry!
We’ve been impressed with Elevated Veterinary Dentistry, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our clinic is designed to keep our pets and their people calm. Its designed with natural woods, fresh plants and has an open concept exam space. We allow our clients to have full access to the entire clinic and offer tours so they can see where their pets will be for the day. We treat our patients as if they are our own babies and only see two patients a day in order to better accomplish this. Our patients get our undivided attention and love.
We are an advanced dental practice in more than just care, but in our medicine as well. We perform root canals, place crowns, and provide other advanced treatments that help patients save more teeth. We perform guided tissue regeneration, bone grafting and much more. We also provide swift extractions if that is what is needed. Theres a list of what we provide on the website, but it should be noted that we do a consultation with each family prior to any treatments so we can discuss what we all think is best for the patient. We want the owners involved because we believe their babies care should be a team effort.
As an individual, I guess you could say I am very bubbly, friendly, and I really like to take the time to get to know my patients and their people. I love customer service and want my owners to feel like they understand exactly whats going on. I want to be very approachable because ultimately that leads to the best patient care.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I am a SUN girl so the summers here are to die for. I also love that this entire state is so friendly to new runners. I was a division 1 rower at Umass and love to be active so I picked up running when we moved here. It’s been so fun!
