Today we’d like to introduce you to Lety Reid.
Hi Lety, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Victory Garden really started over 20 years ago when my husband Victor started a vegetable garden for our family in the backyard. It was his curiosity and love for nature that led us to where we are today. 10 years ago we started the journey of commercial farming. Every day we get to have the privilege of being able to provide for our family by growing food and providing nurishment for our customers and their families.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Weather can be a challenge. We recently experienced a later spring frost that took a hit on our table grapes. With dryer seaons we are experiencing more wildfires in the area. This year we had a fire that got really close to our farm and we were put on evacuation notice. We were fortunate that it didn’t reach us.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Victory Garden?
Victory Garden is a small family farm based in Prospect, which is located in the Upper Rogue of southern Oregon. All of our fruits, vegetables, flowers, and plant starts are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. Instead, we focus our efforts on soil health and bio-diversity so that our land may thrive today and for many years to come. We use only non-GMO seeds with many of our seeds being heirloom varieties.
We grow a variety of vegetables to include leafy green, root crops and flowers. Some of our unique offerings include, Celtuce, Ground Cherries, a variety of edible flowers, and Cucamelons.
