Meet Tiana Boruff of Hair Sanctuary Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiana Boruff.

Hi Tiana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a hairstylist for 16 years and a mother of two, and for most of my career I followed the traditional path in the beauty industry. About five years ago, everything changed when I became very sick and was essentially bedridden for months. That experience forced me to slow down and really look at what was impacting my health.
As I worked to heal my body, I discovered that many of the products and chemicals I was exposed to daily—especially in the salon—were incredibly toxic. I had developed a heightened sensitivity to them, and when I tried to return to work, I physically couldn’t tolerate the environment anymore. At that point, I truly thought my career might be over.
Instead of giving up, I went on a deep search for cleaner, safer alternatives and eventually discovered Innersense Organic Beauty. That became a turning point for me. I started transitioning my clients away from toxic services and educating them right in my chair about what I was learning and why it mattered.
As I became more involved, I joined the education team during the launch of their Color Purity line—one of the first cleaner color systems of its kind in the industry. But I quickly realized there still wasn’t a truly clean space for stylists to work in.
That’s when I knew I needed to create one myself.
I went on to open the first fume-free, organic salon in Southern Oregon, creating a space where both clients and stylists have a healthier path to beauty. From there, I also founded the Abundant Beauty Business Academy, where I now mentor stylists on how to build successful, aligned careers without sacrificing their health or well-being.
Today, my work is about more than just hair—it’s about changing the standard in our industry and proving that you don’t have to choose between success and your health.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all—this has been one of the hardest roads I’ve ever walked.
Even after I was able to return to work, I’ve continued to navigate autoimmune challenges. Some days are better than others, and I’ve had to learn how to honor my body while still showing up for my business, my clients, and my family. That hasn’t always been easy.
There have also been financial risks and a lot of uncertainty along the way. Opening a salon—especially one that goes against the traditional model of the industry—was a huge leap of faith for my husband and me. We had to trust in a vision that didn’t have a clear roadmap.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that not every day is going to be perfect, and that’s okay. What matters is consistency and staying connected to the “why” behind it all. The vision I carry in my heart—to create a healthier path in this industry—has kept me going, even on the hardest days.
With the support of my husband and a lot of perseverance, I’ve been able to keep moving

As you know, we’re big fans of Hair Sanctuary Salon. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business was created from a deeply personal need, but it’s grown into something much bigger than me.
I own the first fume-free, organic salon in Southern Oregon, a space designed to support both beauty and well-being—for our clients and for the stylists behind the chair. We specialize in low-tox, high-performance hair care, including clean color and organic product lines, and we’re known for creating an experience that feels both elevated and safe.
What really sets us apart is that we’re not just offering “cleaner products”—we’ve reimagined the entire salon environment. From the air quality to the ingredients we use, every detail is intentional. It’s a space where people who may have sensitivities, health concerns, or simply a desire to live more consciously can still enjoy luxury hair services without compromise.
Beyond the salon, I also created the Abundant Beauty Business Academy, where I mentor hairstylists who are ready to build successful careers that align with their health and values. That piece of the business allows me to have a broader impact by helping shift the industry from the inside out.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that we’ve proven it’s possible to do things differently—and successfully. We’ve built a brand rooted in integrity, education, and care, and our clients truly trust us because of that.
More than anything, I want people to know that our brand stands for a new standard in beauty—one where you don’t have to sacrifice your health for results. We’re here to show that you can have both.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice is to stay connected to your “why,” especially when things get hard—because they will. If your reason is strong enough, it will carry you through the moments where you feel uncertain, overwhelmed, or ready to give up.
I also wish I had known earlier that you don’t have to follow the traditional path to be successful. For a long time, I thought I had to do things the way the industry had always done them, even when it didn’t feel right for me. It wasn’t until I trusted myself and chose a more aligned path that everything started to shift.
Another big lesson has been learning that consistency matters more than perfection. There will never be a “perfect” time, and not every day is going to feel productive or easy—but showing up anyway is what creates long-term success.
